4 Things That Social Media Week L.A Taught Me About Social Media Marketing In 2017

This week I had the pleasure of attending Social Media LA. For those that don’t know, Social Media Week is a leading news platform and worldwide conference that curates and shares the best ideas, innovations, and insights into how social media and technology are changing business, society, and culture around the world.

There are so many questions when it comes to branding and social media- What steps should you follow to have as much influence in the online environment as possible? What are some simple ways that you can improve your brand’s image through social media? In the digital age we live in, a brand cannot survive without being active on social networks. Here are 4 things you should be doing in social media marketing:

  1. Identify and divide your audience

Your social marketing efforts will be rewarded if you target your audience and identify appropriate segments, giving each user relevant content. If not segmented, the audience in social media activities will be blurry and will not produce tangible results. If you identify the needs of each category of users, you can give them what they want. Identify target audiences by considering the following factors: gender, age, education level, geographic location, social status, etc.

  1. Plan your content on social media channels

After you have identified and segmented your target audience, you need to plan accordingly. For example, if your audience is composed 80% of women aged between 20 and 35 years, you can try to address this group using channels like Facebook and Pinterest and provide relevant content to them.

  1. Join in the online conversation

Try to be more active in the online environment, interacting continuously with potential clients. Even if your brand is less known, continue online interactions with fans of other brands. This will allow you to gradually create your own group of fans. Give them advice from your field of expertise, contribute with suggestions and comments, so that you will become better known and build a positive online reputation.

  1. Monitor your online reputation

To enjoy a good reputation in the online environment, you must give evidence of integrity, consistency, and credibility. It is important to know what people are saying about your brand. If you get positive or negative feedback, monitoring your brand will allow you to be quick in your response. Furthermore, knowing the image of your brand in the online environment helps you in determining where you need to start in order to improve your image.
