Top 10 things that I learned in 2015

IMG_7292 IMG_7294 IMG_7312 IMG_7317 IMG_7322What a Year 2015 has been! Every year brings so many lessons. I discovered my strengths, but with that came the discovery of my weaknesses. People left my life, only to make room for new ones. There were moments of great laughter, accompanied by dark moments of sadness. There were triumphs in reaching some of my goals. There were setbacks, as I fell short of things I had envisioned for myself. 2015 was the year that I learned a great deal about myself.

These are the top 10 things that I learned in 2015.

  1. I’ve learned to tell people [exactly] how I feel. Even if it puts me in the position where I am no longer favorable with them. It may make them dislike me, but I sleep better after speaking my truth. My truth is valid and it should always have a voice.
  2. I’ve learned not to friend someone on social media immediately after meeting them. Just as friendships take time to grow. The decision to follow or friend someone should also take some time.
  3. I’ve learned that sometimes relationships and friendships fall apart and that it’s ok. You won’t always get the closure you deserve and that’s reasonable too. People aren’t meant to stay forever, but that shouldn’t take away from the beautiful memories that you shared with them. The memories were lived. The love was there and it was real. It was truthful at the time, and even with its departure, the union was sacred.
  4. I’ve learned that sleep and I have a horrible relationship and we need to work it out.
  5. I’ve learned to show people who are dear to me just how appreciated they are. Whether it’s bringing them flowers, sending a small gift, taking them out to lunch, or merely sending a text telling them how much they mean to me. People need to know that you love them, because sometimes they forget.
  6. I’ve learned that moments of nostalgia are fleeting and deceiving. I’ve learned how to sit with it for a while and then politely tell it to go away.
  7. I’ve learned that it’s within my right to unfollow and unfriend someone on social media without any formal notice – no explanation warranted.
  8. I’ve learned that I have a real good sense of humor and it’s a shame that I don’t do comedy.
  9. I’ve learned that I have a lot of creative ideas that are worthy of seeing the light of day.
  10. I’ve learned that this life, no matter where it takes you, is beautiful. To be able to continue on the journey is nothing short of a blessing.
